solutions for Child Presence Detection (CPD)

4activeSystems has worked closely with Euro NCAP to ensure the safety and protection of young children in cars. The combination of extreme temperatures in cars and distracted or stressed carers can lead to tragic situations. To help prevent the scenario of toddlers being left in cars, we have expanded our OD dummy portfolio to include the OD-1YO dummy. This dummy realistically simulates the head, leg, arm and body movements of a one-year-old, along with adjustable breathing patterns. It is made of highly realistic, skin-like material and provides accurate radar feedback for common in-cabin radar frequencies.

As part of the Child Presence Detection (CPD) Consortium Project, which focuses on the development of harmonized child dummies for testing and validating in-cabin detection systems, 4activeSystems supports the creation of industry-wide safety standards. The OD-1YO dummy contributes to these efforts by enabling the testing of systems that detect the presence of toddlers and alert vehicle occupants or external services accordingly.

The goal is to train the vehicle’s in-cabin monitoring system to detect such situations and trigger an alarm. Our 4activeOD-1YO dummy can replicate key movement patterns such as awakening, light sleep, deep sleep and full wakefulness, including activities such as playing. You can also manually activate specific movement patterns as required. The OD-1YO is capable of more movements and is more active than the newborn dummy, reflecting the higher activity level of a one-year-old child. This dummy will be essential for the future development of vehicle safety systems.
