At 4activeSystems, we are dedicated to advancing child safety in vehicles through intensive collaboration with Euro NCAP and the entire sensor industry. Our worldwide unique solution is designed for the development and evaluation of vehicle in-cabin detection sensor technologies.

One focus of the CPD-project was the research and development of a highly realistic, skin-like materials and optimized for precise radar feedback, it provides reliable test results that ensure compliance with evolving safety standards. Electromagnetic radar waves exhibit human-like reflection and absorption properties, penetrating the skin-like material only a few millimetres, depending on the frequency, like real human tissue. The underlying mechatronic actuators remain invisible to all sensors.

We are part of a large industry consortium comprising more than 34 high-tech companies specializing in in-cabin sensing technology. Our new and advanced in-cabin dummy, the 4activeOD-6year, is developed to replicate the natural behaviours and movements of a six-year-old child. Bases on scientific studies it includes realistic head, arm, and leg movements, human-like breathing, and even the ability to talk. With 17 degrees of freedom to simulate natural motion, this dummy presents a significant challenge for in-cabin safety systems, which must accurately detect, monitor, and respond to a child’s presence and movements to prevent injuries or life-threatening situations.

The 4activeOD-6year features a broader range of movement patterns than our other OD-Dummies, reflecting the increased physical activity and cognitive awareness of a child at this stage. Its ability to perform both automated and manually triggered movement sequences makes it an indispensable tool for developing next-generation in-cabin safety technologies. By enabling more accurate and comprehensive testing, this dummy plays a crucial role in improving vehicle safety and protecting young passengers from potential harm.
